6 Year Old Drives To School Courtesy Of GTA Skills  
(via The Escapist) - A six-year-old used the skills he learned playing GTA to drive himself to school - or at least part of the way there. The unnamed boy apparently was so distraught at the idea of missing P.E. class that when he missed the school bus, he jumped into his parents' Taurus and sped off after it.

Columbia movies back on Netflix instant view  
(via Xbox 360 Fanboy) - Keen-eyed observers (or at least one keen-eyed observer, anyway) over at 360Sync have noticed that movies from Sony's Columbia Pictures are once again available for Netflix streaming on Xbox 360. After the titles were first yanked from the service in November, we later reported that most of the Columbia movies had returned, but it seems that now all of them are available once again.

Xbox 360 install base surges to 28 million  
(via Xbox 360 Fanboy) - Late last night, Microsoft sent word that they've reached an Xbox 360 install base milestone, announcing that by 2008's end they have been able to sell 28 million consoles worldwide. That's an increase of around 10 million consoles since last January, don'tcha know. On top of the 28 million install base news, Microsoft proudly informed us that 2008 saw an 84% increase in year-over-year online consumer spending, that the Xbox Live community has ballooned to 17 million members and that over $1 billion has been spent on Xbox Live since its launch in 2005.

(via Game Radar) - Since the release of Gears of War 2 the online play has been plagued with issues. The issues consist of bad matchmaking to many, many online exploits. Well I guess Cliffy B. has been putting his boot up some programmers asses over there at Epic in order to get the problems solved.

Microsoft Announces 2008 was our best-ever year  
(via Xboxer) - SALES WAR update! Microsoft's just sent out a fact-filled press release, claiming that 2008 was the best-ever year for sales in the history of the Xbox "brand." The total global userbase of Xbox 360 now stands at 28 million consoles, which MS says is 8 million ahead of Sony's figure for PlayStation3.

Xbox 360 sales top 28 million  
(via Squad XP) - Xbox 360 sales have topped 28 million units worldwide following the console's most successful year, according to Microsoft.The company says 360 has now increased its lead over PS3 to eight million units, although it's worth pointing out that Sony's console was released a year later.

'Major' Gears 2 Update Detailed  
(via Squad XP) - Epic Games is kicking off the new year with a hefty patch for Gears of War 2, one that promises to address ongoing multiplayer bugs, fix persistent glitches, improve the netcode and even add a few achievements for good measure. In a post on the official Gears of War message boards today, Epic Vice President Mark Rein announced that the title update will be released sometime in January, although no specific date has been nailed down just yet.

Japan Gaming Sales down 15%  
(via 360 HQ) - During 2008 Japan's sales dropped a whole 15% lower than what it was in 2007. While the market was able to rack up Ґ 582.61 billion in 2008, it's still 15% down from 2007, with both the hardware and software sales experiencing their own drops. Hardware sales took a much harder fall, with sales dropping 23.

New Year Brings Some Change to Squad XP  
(via Squad XP) - Today I spoke to Rodder about some changes I had planned for the site. With time being a significant burden for Rodder and I, we decided to switch up our show format. We will now record a show every other week starting with our upcoming show on Sunday January 11th 2009. Since we'll be missing out every other week our recording time has increased to one hour and thirty minutes.

Nintendo Dominates Contracting Japanese Videogame Market  
(via 1Up) - Kotaku's Brian Ashcraft translated Famitsu's report on the 2008 year end sales data for Japan put together by Enterbrain. Overall the combined market for hardware and software declined a substantial 15 percent from 687.
